12:30-1 ArcGIS Field Maps is the new premium data collection app from Esri that is harnessing the functionality of Collector, Navigator, Tracker and will eventually incorporate Workforce and Navigator all into one app. Esri’s approach to implementing one app that covers multiple phases along the planning and data collection process is improving consistency and collaboration across organizations. We are pleased to have the product lead of Field Maps, Jeff Shaner, join us for this session educating us on what Field Maps is, where it’s going, and its key capabilities to emphasize how making the switch from Collector can benefit your organization.
1-1:20 Why does a DOT mandate new field software for all sub-inch ROW permits and what is the impact on future workflows? Interview with Rob Martindale, Utilities Program Manager for Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT), will discuss how Colorado Revised Statue C.R.S. 9-1.5-101 (811 Law) impacts the management of utility data within State Highway Right of Ways. We will discuss how permitted utilities are leveraging new technologies including the January 14th, 2021 mandate of PointMan data collection software to utilize asset mapping workflows that enable CDOT to efficiently gather as-built locations and infrastructure.
Discussion with PointMan Product Manager, Ben Skogen, on integration of Trimble’s sub-inch line-up: Catalyst, R2cm, R12i. Real-time locator data integration into point/line features, including depth of cover, frequency, signal strength, (RD, Metrotech, Subsurface). Plus, workflows for: stakeout, move/update/validate existing features, laser offsets, and incorporation of SUE (Subsurface Utility Engineering) data into MicroStation, Bentley, Autodesk and Esri backends. 1:20-1:45 Trimble TerraFlex is an easy-to-use app for smartphones and tablet. Lauren Satterfield from the University of Washington will share her project, tracking the hunting habits of cougars in the Okanogan, WA area using accelerometer collars, and mapping it all with Trimble's TerraFlex app.
1:45-2:10 Why is this solution still a valid GIS workflow in 2021? This session will educate GIS users on the difference between using a recreational receiver and a high end GNSS receiver. What is the impact to a user when real-time DPGS sources are not available? Trimble's Floodlight Technology available on the Geo7X is still the only receiver capable of working in a hostile GNSS environment to collect and process reliable, accurate GIS field assets.
